About Carrollton, KY

A View of Carrollton, KY

The rolling hills and bluegrass countryside city of Carrollton is located at the meeting point of the Ohio and Kentucky rivers. Spend a day at Point Park, located riverside on the Ohio River. In addition to beautiful scenery, there are picnic areas, playground spaces, and access to the river. We recommend taking a sightseeing river tour from one of the local boating companies.

The River Valley Winery is a fantastic place to relax in the charming landscape of Carrollton. Sit beneath the arbor to sip a glass of wine while gazing at the lush lawns and colorful gardens. On site, there is also Llama Land and a picturesque duck pond. Or head indoors to rest in the comfortable tasting room.

History and Heritage of Carrollton

History buffs will enjoy a tour of the Butler-Turpin State Historic House, which grants a fabulous view of the Ohio River Valley. Built in 1859, this restored home is chock full of artifacts displayed within the original masonry architecture. Be sure to wander around the side of the house to visit the Butler Family Cemetery.

Downtown Carrollton has a number of historic features to watch out for, highlighted by the history banners hung throughout the streets. Check out the tiny Old Stone Jail, and take a stroll through the Courthouse to see a bronze marker that points out the 1937 Flood high mark.

Tastes of our Town

Carrollton has plenty of foodie appeal. To enjoy the atmosphere of the Ohio River as you eat, head to Welch’s Riverside Restaurant for classic American fare. Another flavorful café (great breakfasts!) with a view is the Two Rivers Restaurant. No matter where you choose to dine, we recommend ordering the regional signature dish – Kentucky Hot Brown, which is a baked country ham with roasted turkey, all smothered in cheese and topped with tomato and bacon. Add a side of cornbread or pinto beans for an authentic Kentucky meal.

To make sure you don’t miss any of Carrollton’s attractions, keep your vision sharp and healthy with an eye exam at Gaddie Eye Centers. We look forward to seeing you!
