Laura Lea Bassett, O.D.
Dr. Laura Lea Bassett, a native of Bardstown, KY, received her biology degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College (magna cum laude) and her optometry doctorate from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She also completed residency training in ocular disease and geriatrics at the Tuscaloosa Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Before practicing at Gaddie Eye Center, she worked for seven years in private practice in Birmingham, Alabama.
While in optometry school, Dr. Bassett was active in Students in Optometric Service to Humanity, serving one term as co-president and delivering eyecare to underprivileged persons in Costa Rica and in the Dominican Republic. In 2004, she served as the attending optometrist on a similar vision mission to Honduras.
Her professional interests include management of diabetic-related eye disease and contact lens-related corneal pathology. Her personal interests include traveling to the beach, dabbling in home improvement projects, gardening, and enjoying good Bluegrass music. Dr. Bassett is actively involved at Forest Park Community Church and lives in Louisville with her husband Rich, their daughter Connelly and their cat Grace Kitty.
